FROM PROPHETS TO RELIGION
Workshops exploring consciousness, the mechanisms of reality and the origins of religion
STARTS 10 November | 6 sessions
Did the great teachers share knowledge about reality that later generations turned into religion?
Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad. Different eras, cultures and languages. Different teachings, yet similar questions about human beings, consciousness and our place in the world.
What were they really sharing? How did the environments they lived in influence their teachings? And what happened to their message when it passed into the hands of later generations?
Across six sessions, we will explore the journey from individual experience to a religious system. We will examine how interpretations, dogmas and authorities emerge, and when teachings intended to help us understand reality begin to dictate what we should believe.
We will also look at contemporary explorers of consciousness, including Lightworkers. Why do we surround teachers from the past with legends, while often judging and marginalising people who ask similar questions today?
These workshops explore how beliefs arise and what happens to knowledge passed down through generations, rather than telling you what to believe.
WORKSHOP PROGRAMME
✨ SESSION 1 — 10 November, 18:00: FROM EXPERIENCE TO RELIGION
How does personal experience differ from knowledge, faith and dogma? How does an individual discovery become a teaching and, over time, an entire religious system? We will explore how culture, historical context and living conditions shape our understanding of reality.
✨ SESSION 2 — 17 November, 18:00: BUDDHA — THE MECHANISMS OF SUFFERING AND ILLUSION
Who was Siddhartha Gautama, and what led him to investigate the nature of human suffering? Ignorance, attachment, causality and recurring experiences will provide a starting point for discussing the mechanisms that guide human life. How did his teachings develop into different Buddhist traditions?
✨ SESSION 3 — 24 November, 18:00: JESUS — CONSCIOUSNESS, TRANSFORMATION AND RELATIONSHIPS
What was the world in which Jesus taught like, and what shaped his message? Love, forgiveness, the Kingdom of God and inner transformation take on new meaning in the context of that time. What did Jesus teach, and how were his teachings interpreted in later centuries?
✨ SESSION 4 — 1 December, 18:00: MUHAMMAD AND OTHER TEACHERS — THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE WHOLE
How did living conditions on the Arabian Peninsula influence Muhammad's teachings and the emergence of Islam? Revelation, responsibility, justice and community illustrate different ways of understanding our relationship with the order around us. Do place and time influence the picture of reality a teacher presents?
✨ SESSION 5 — 8 December, 18:00: FROM TEACHING TO A SYSTEM OF CONTROL
When do teachings become dogma, and when does authority begin to demand obedience? We will examine how politics, hierarchies, guilt, punishment, reward and salvation have influenced the development of religions and the behaviour of entire societies. How do faith, prayer, hope and the idea of holiness shape our thinking and sense of agency?
✨ SESSION 6 — 15 December, 18:00: LIGHTWORKERS AND THE PRESENT DAY — IS HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF?
Why do we surround teachers from the past with legends, while often judging or marginalising spiritual seekers today? The internet and the global flow of information have changed how ideas emerge, spread and encounter public opinion. To conclude, we will compare the teachings we have explored, looking for common themes, differences and contradictions.
What if we looked at religion differently?
Through what it reveals about human beings, consciousness and our understanding of the world, rather than through the question of which religion is true.
